Cybersafe project presentation
On the third of June, the VLIR-UOS team, from the Universidad Central "Marta Abreu" de Las Villas in Cuba, presented their project Cybersafe. The research project is focused on tackling online transgressive behaviours and strengthening institutional policies on digital safety in Cuban university communities. During the presentation, they explained how the project will produce extensive data on online transgressive behaviours, an AI toolkit to tackle those behaviours. Moreover, it will develop university policies (protocols and services) dedicated to prevent the issue. They are also aiming to develop training to internal staffs and local stakeholders to enhance capacities and impact in the development of the protocols, services, trainings and toolkits.
The specific research objectives for the project are to investigate the occurrence of transgressive behavior on social media from an intersectional perspective, thereby gathering valuable data that will inform the design of future interventions. Another objective is to design intervention strategies that enable the co-creation of interventions based on inclusion and non-discrimination to prevent online transgressive behavior and develop protection strategies within the university community. And finally, the project will develop protocols, services, and tools that facilitate learning resources and participation, both from the institution toward the community and from the community toward itself (University interventions and policies).
The team of researchers is interdisciplinary, encompassing researchers from psychology, law, IT, genderstudies etc. This project is supported by prof. Dr. Gily Coene, prof. dr. Dirk Lafaut and Danielle Fernandes. Find out more about the project and Cuban team here.
