Dorcus Achen

My name is Dorcus Achen from Uganda. I was selected on a VLIR-OUS scholarship to do my PhD on improving parent-child communication on sexual and reproductive health in rural south-western Uganda. My research particularly is a qualitative study examining the implications of gendered parent-child communication about sexuality: Voices from emerging adults (18-24) in rural south-western Uganda. 

I have for the past 6 years worked with young adolescents in projects aimed at improving their sexual and reproductive health and I believe that parent-child communication will go a long way in improving adolescent sexual and reproductive health. In March 2019 I completed an advanced diploma in sexual and reproductive health and rights and for my project, IN WHICH my colleague and I developed a skills development project to help parents improve communication with their children about sexual and reproductive health.
