Lula Maris
Biography
Lula Maris is an FWO PhD Fellow in Philosophy and Ethics at RHEA. Her project is titled "Narrative Resistance: a Feminist Ethical Inquiry Into the Use of Counterstories in Modern-Day Activism" (2025 - 2029). Based on the work of feminist ethicist Hilde Lindemann Nelson, the aim of the project is to revise and contextualize the theoretical framework of the counterstory, to broaden our understanding of narrative and storytelling as tools for resistance and moral progress.
Lula Maris obtained her Master of Arts in Philosophy and Moral Sciences degree at the VUB in 2024, with a dissertation on narrative meaning in secular society. In 2025, she obtained a second Master Degree from the Research Master in Philosophy, with a dissertation on intersex identity in online advice to parents of intersex children. In 2023, she also interned at Knack Magazine and wrote several articles for their website. Coming soon is a popularizing essay on the importance of philosophy for a collection: stay tuned!
