Prof. Dr. Laurence Claeys
Biography
Prof. dr. Laurence Claeys is professor in the Department of Media and Communication Studies at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Brussels-Belgium) and holds a PhD in Social Sciences (Communication Sciences) and an MA in Sociology and Gender Studies. She is also Senior Researcher at the research center SMIT (http://smit.vub.ac.be/) since 2012 where she is involved in research on privacy, trust, risk and end-user development in the domain of Internet-of-Things communication. Before becoming professor she has been working at the Nederlandstalige Vrouwenraad (http://www.vrouwenraad.be), VOK (http://www.vrouwendag.be/) and has been part of the Ambient Media Applications research team of Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs (http://www.belllabs.be/) in Antwerp where she investigated the role and implementation of end-user development tools for programming contextual aware systems and application-creation platforms. In this context she also developed research methods and tools for the interdisciplinary work of engineers, social scientists and designers in R&I environments.
