Binnen onze jaarlijkse “RHEA Gender Lecture Series” van het Onderzoekscentrum voor Gender, Diversiteit, en Intersectionaliteit RHEA (VUB), organiseren we op 2 maart 2026 een panelgesprek met als thema: "Refusing to Conform: Trans Bodies as a Site of Resistance”. Met dit event willen we verschillende aspecten van trans en gender-nonconformerend verzet verkennen, waaronder verzet tegen politieke normativiteit, binaire kaders en Westerse narratieven rond trans-zijn.
Het panelgesprek vindt plaats om 18:30 en zal ongeveer 2 uur duren, in aula D.0.02, gevolgd door een receptie. Het gesprek gaat door in het Engels, en de (voorlopige) panelleden zijn Mo Moulton (Prof. Geschiedenis University of Birmingham), Joke D’Heer (cultuur en mediawetenschapper) en Olave Nduwanje (activist en podcaster). Het panel wordt gemodereerd door Marion Wasserbauer (social scientist UAntwerpen).
Within our annual "RHEA Gender Lecture Series", we are organizing a panel on the 2nd of March 2026, on the topic of “Refusing to Conform: Trans Bodies as a Site of Resistance”. We aim to open up conversations about gender, and in this case, transness, among professors, researchers, and students. We specifically also want to explore different aspects of trans resistance, such as resisting political normativity, moving beyond binary frameworks, and challenging/rewriting Western narratives around transness.
The panel will take place from 18:30 to 20:30 on the VUB Etterbeek campus, in auditorium D.0.02, followed by a reception. The panelists (right now) are Mo Moulton (Professor in History, University of Birmingham), Joke D’Heer (culture and media scientist) and Olave Nduwanje (activist and podcaster). The panel is moderated by Marion Wasserbauer (social scientist UAntwerpen).
